Khus Green

Whenever I think of peace and serenity, lush green mountains with a stream of running water appear before my eyes.Yes green the colour of peace.Green has always been the soothing colour.

Come summer and the scorching heat of vidarbha where I grew up would burn us like anything. But out of many things that kept us healthy and going still was Khus sharbat and sugarcane juice in evenings .The sugarane juice wala used to roam through our lanes and we used to take our vessels and glass to have that green refreshing drink with a zing of lemon.Khus was the more soother and more deeper one prepared at home.Even today when I come across dark green colour khus sharbat on racks of grocery stores my mind fills up with the aroma and the coolness it offers.

Everyday when I reach office after observing the mad chaos for an hour on road the glimpse of small garden in our courtyard cools down my mind and helps me to focus. Many times when I feel bad, agitated or hopeless this small patch of greenery is my instant reliever and infuses so much positivity.

Green holds a lot of significance in many religions. As per Hindu tradition it signifies fertility and life.Majority of the poojas in hindu household are incomplete without green sarees, green bangles, mehendi, and then in pooja rituals also betel leaves, durva, magic leaves neem leaves hold so much importance.

Our cooking is incomplete without greens They bring a balance to the hotness and sweetness.May it be coriander or cardamom.

Indeed Green is peace, green is purity, green is serene ,green is verity!!
