Saree - A pursuit

Saree is the one attire which has always intrigued me.More so because I love sarees, their colours, patterns and textures but for many years didn't have the confidence to carry it effortlessly.

So as I child I had watched Sridevi in Chandni wearing beautiful flowing sarees and as I grew K serial heriones were portrayed as strong women in beautiful sarees too.I had seen my nani and mother wearing sarees and being so comfortable in it may it be cotton or silk ones. At that time Garden Vareli sarees used to be quite colourful with flowery and trendy prints. And after graduation I bought quite a few with no idea where I was going to wear them.

Having worn salwar suits only as article trainee and jeans tee otherwise I felt saree a little more cumbersome and time taking to get ready in morning .I had a whole collection of my marriage sarees (considering my love for silk my parents had taken me to Hyderabad specially for shopping), georgette and crepes. But they were rarely worn.

Fast forward 10-12 years and I became a member of Saree speak group as well as I saw many of my dear friends completing the 100 day saree challenge and love for sarees was reignited.I even attempted to wear Saree like yash raj movie on Swiss mountain and thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of it.

I believe saree is the only attire which accepts us wholeheartedly and comfort us with warmth like a mother. We don't have to fit in it. It encircles and adjusts and we just need to soak in it's embrace.I have read about scientific significance and how draping saree helps in maintaining energy levels.

Another important advantage is a saree never goes out of fashion.A very old maintained saree can be worn and still it looks beautiful.Same saree can be worn in different styles or with different kinds of blouses and new look can be enjoyed everytime. It also fills heart with a content of carrying forward our culture and tradition in a beautiful way supporting our weavers and indigineous textile industry too.

Wearing Saree and carrying it is a matter of practice and precision. And thanks to all the informative reels on the art of it on social nedia amateurs like me are really motivated.

Last 2 years didn't have any special occasions nor could wear it to office. Come 2023 and I have to decided to grab every chance to don a saree and be a pro at it.

Sharing herewith pictures of 2 recent occasions.First one is red pure crepe with zardozi work worn at a makarsankrant event as theme was red yellow.Second one is woven multicoloured silk reflecting the essence of Indian handloom worn at a wedding .
